Saved money on transcription

I was looking for a cheap way to get some audio transcribed for my podcast. I heard about Audext and decided to try their 30 minutes free trial first. It worked well, so I bought some bulk hours. The price per hour was much better than other services I looked at, especially with the bulk discount. It felt like I got good value for my money. The quality was decent enough for my needs, and it definitely saved me a chunk of change compared to paying someone else to do it. Worth it if you're on a budget.

Easy to use, worked well

I used Audext to transcribe a lecture for my class, an m4a file. I just uploaded it, and it did its thing. The transcription came back pretty quick, like within an hour for an hour-long recording. The editor was handy for fixing a few spots. Overall, it made my life way easier. I didn't have to sit there typing everything out myself.

Consistent and reliable

I've been using Audext for a while now for my online classes, probably my fourth or fifth time. I usually upload wav files. This last transcription for a two-hour lecture was just as good as previous ones. The accuracy is consistently high, and I always get the transcript back within the promised timeframe, usually under an hour. The online editor is familiar now, so I can zip through any small corrections really fast. It's just a dependable service, which is why I keep coming back instead of trying other transcription tools.

Good value, minor fixes needed

I tried Audext for a research interview, converting an mp3 to text. The automatic transcription was mostly accurate, probably around 90%, which is good for the price. Speaker identification worked okay for the most part, but I did have to go in and correct some speaker labels in the editor, especially when people talked over each other. Delivery was fast, got it back in about 30 minutes for a 40-minute file. I also noticed that the automated timestamps were a bit off in a few places. So, it's not perfect right out of the gate, but it saves a lot of time compared to doing it by hand.

How long does it typically take to get a transcript back for say, a 30-minute podcast? I need something pretty quick.

P Phil Marsh 1 month ago
For 30 minutes, it's usually super fast, like under 5 minutes depending on how busy their servers are. The AI is pretty quick.

My 45-minute audio files usually process in like 7-10 minutes. So 30 should be even faster. It's almost real-time for shorter stuff.

Hey, is Audext better than Otter.ai? I've used Otter but it's not quite cutting it for some of my project audio.

J June 1 month ago
I found Audext to be a bit more accurate for my specific audio, especially with background noise. Otter is good, but Audext felt like a slight step up. Worth using the free minutes to compare.

Depends on your needs. For just basic meeting notes, Otter is fine. But if you need more precise speaker ID or a better editor, Audext might edge it out. Give the Audext trial a shot.

What happens if I upload an audio file and it's really bad quality? Does Audext just churn out gibberish or does it try its best?

W Wendy C. 1 month ago
It'll try its best, but if it's really bad, you'll get a pretty messy transcript. Garbage in, garbage out usually applies. You'll definitely need to do a lot of editing.

It won't be perfect, but it'll give you something to work with. I've had some fuzzy recordings and while the initial transcript needed heavy cleaning, it was still faster than typing it all from scratch.

Thinking of trying Audext for some video files. Does it actually work well with video, or is it mostly for audio? My videos are usually MP4s.

N Nina S. 1 month ago
It works fine for video, I've used it with MP4s myself. It just pulls the audio out and transcribes that. No issues with it handling video formats.

Yeah, it's designed for video too. Just make sure your audio in the video is clear for best results. It's basically an audio converter, so the video part is just the source.

Hey, wondering if anyone's used Audext for research interviews? How good is the speaker ID feature? Trying to avoid manually labeling everything.

P Priya Nguyen 2 months ago
Yeah, I've used it. The speaker ID is pretty decent for clearer audio, but if people talk over each other a lot, it can get a bit mixed up. Still saves a ton of time though.

It's not perfect, but way better than nothing. You'll still need to do some light editing but it gets most of it right. For research, I'd say it's a solid tool.
